| About the Survey Research Center
The Survey Research Center at the University of New Orleans (the "UNO Poll") exists to serve the research, teaching and service needs of the University and of the larger community. The Center promotes socially significant research with public policy implications as well as research of theoretical or academic interest. Since 1985, the Center has collected information about public opinions, beliefs and values on a wide range of social, economic and political issues. In that time it has gained a reputation for accuracy and integrity in public opinion research.
In January 2004 the UNO SRC, in collaboration with the Center for Hazards Assessment and Research Technology was awarded a grant of $438,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to conduct Citizen Evacuation Surveys in twelve Southeast Louisiana parishes. The information will be used to enhance efficient and safe evacuations in the case of a major hurricane.
Graduate students may enroll in the Internship in Survey Research in which they earn graduate credit while gaining practical experience with survey research. There are currently two Graduate Research Assistantships funded by the Survey Research Center. Information about this financial aid is available from the Center Director, Dr. Robert T. Sims..
Undergraduate students participate in the UNO Survey Research Center surveys through the undergraduate research methods course (POLI 2900). In this course students experience the research process firsthand from design through implementation and analysis. Undergraduates may also enroll in Independent Study in Survey Research if they want further instruction in survey research methods.
